The Sorrow Years

Last weekend we found out that my wife was pregnant.
Within a few days, she lost the baby.
It’s amazing how someone who just barely entered your life at all can be missed so deeply.
This is not our first encounter with these emotions; after our first baby, we thought that we had a miscarriage. But long story short, best we can figure we weren’t actually pregnant, we were just a couple of excitable newlyweds who weren’t used to the hormonal and physical changes of a lady who just had a baby. So while we went through the emotions as if it was real, it ended in confusion and a kind of relief. When God gave us our second baby, it felt like He gave us back the one we had lost
This one’s different. Final. Real. Deep.
This little person will never be forgotten.
Pray for us as we ride the waves of sorrow. I’ll leave you with a song I wrote in honor of the baby we will never get to meet this side of paradise.
The Sorrow Years
For Baby Sesame
Well, you’ll never suffer any tears to cry
Though many a tear was cried over you
And you’ll never have to wonder why
Though we all wondered why, it’s true
Oh baby, I just found out you exist
And baby now you’re gone, oh how you’re missed
So we’ll weep for you
Oh we weep for you
‘Cause we don’t know you but we miss you and we want to hug and kiss you
And your mama wants to meet you and I want to hold you tight
But you missed the darkness baby,
Go bask in the Sunlight baby,
You’re where all the bad is broken and the wrong things are made right
This sadness is for those of us who walk this vale of tears
And you? Well you just skipped the sorrow years
You sailed from harbor straight to the crystal sea
I wish you were sailing here with me
But the God Who gave you, He took away
And we will bless His Name, dear Sesame
We ride the waves of sorrow for the night
Knowing joy will come with morning’s light
‘Cause we don’t know you but we miss you and we want to hug and kiss you
And your mama wants to meet you and I want to hold you tight
But you missed the darkness baby,
Go bask in the Sunlight baby,
You’re where all the bad is broken and the wrong things are made right
This sadness is for those of us who walk this vale of tears
And you? Well you just skipped the sorrow years
So go skipping down the golden streets
Baby you skipped right on past
The sorrow years
