Seven Steps for Young Men

After I called out Joel Webbon and said that young men should not be encouraged to be angry mockers, but should rather be encouraged to pursue Biblical solutions to the very real problems that we face, a number of responses came back with variations on a theme of “OK bub, what are these Biblical solutions of which you speak so glibly, praytell?”
Firstly, it is essential to establish that regardless of what the right thing to do is, it is certainly not to do the wrong thing.
In other words, if Scripture says not to do it, then it is not the right answer. Even someone who does not have a right answer to offer is still correct in saying that we should not do what God says not to do.
So regardless of what the right answer is, demanding an alternative to unbiblical conduct is not the same thing as being able to demonstrate that that conduct is actually Biblical.
When, therefore, it is Scripturally demonstrated that anger (Pr. 22:24, Jas. 1:19) and mockery (Ps. 1:1-2) are not characteristic norms for the Christian life, the right response is not “well, it’s all we’ve got,” but rather “well, clearly we need to find a different way to do things.”
That said, we do indeed need practical Biblical steps to encourage young men to pursue. Scripture tells us not only to put off, but also to put on. So here are a few.
1. Personal Holiness
A young man who is enslaved to pornography, marijuana, video games, the pursuit of riches, or any other sin or idol is not prepared – is not free – to make war on the problems of our society.
First, make war on your own sin. Come to Christ; repent and be renewed by the Holy Spirit; become a sharp instrument to be wielded by the Hand of God against the darkness. (Rom. 6:18)
2. Prayer, Church, Scripture
A strong spiritual foundation is necessary before you are ready to launch into cultural combat. You need a community – not an online community of people your age, but a flesh-and-blood community of noisy little kids, curmudgeonly old folks, Boomers who disagree with you, and everybody else too.
God designed the body of Christ to sharpen one another. You need to get in the church, honor your elders, and learn. You need to build a brotherhood that is real and Kingdom-focused. You need to be in prayer, seeking the will of God, and praying against the darkness. You need to be sharpening your sword of the Word of God through disciplined study.
These things are foundational for courage and victory. (2 Tim. 2:15, Ps. 119:9, Eph. 4, 1 Pet. 5:5)
3. Productivity
Build something awesome.
Figure out what God has called you to do, and do it. Become a skilled tradesmen, a master artist, or even simply a diligent day laborer. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might (Ecc. 9:10) – and do it with vision.
Seek to be someone who multiplies the talents that God has given him. Ask yourself how your vocational trajectory is preparing you to be able to be generous to Christians in need. To exercise economic and political influence for the good of your community. To fund Christ-honoring endeavors. To give an inheritance to your children’s children.
Work towards business ownership – towards dominance in your sphere of work.
And work to the point where you are prepared to provide well for a wife and children.
The hand of the diligent will rule (Pr. 12:24). If Godly young men embrace this principle, takeover is inevitable.
4. Get Married
And have a bunch of kids. This is a death blow to the matrix, the Muslims, and the matriarchy. If you marry a godly woman, the kind of woman who wants to obey what the Bible says about marriage, and you raise up a whole van full of children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, your hand is full of arrows to launch at the kingdom of darkness.
But we must not move on too quickly from this point – if you’re going to get married and have children, you need to be a husband and father, not just a reproducer.
You need to love your wife and take good care of her. You need to raise your children diligently in the nurture and admission of the Lord. This is a numbers game, but it is not just a numbers game. (Eph. 5, Deut. 6)
Ultimately, it is a question of the advancement of the Kingdom of God. We don’t just need more humans, and we certainly don’t just need more white humans. We need more Godly humans.
5. Get Politically Involved
Godly young men are needed in the front lines of our culture. There are wicked policies that must be overturned and wicked practices that must be stopped. Cops who have been punished for doing their job should be exonerated. Black teen boys who murder people and get let off the hook because of their skin color need to be brought to justice. Our national practice of child sacrifice needs to be stopped. The immigrational invasion of our country needs to be beaten back. The sexual confusion that has become a protected perversion in our midst must be repented of. Your own local government needs to be confronted with the reality that they must kiss the Son, or they will perish in the way. (Ps. 2)
This must all be done with great courage, with impartial justice (Deut. 16:20), with explicit reliance on the Word of God, and without bitterness or vengefulness. (Rom. 12:19)
6. Be Dangerous
Train. Be a formidable obstacle to evil, both physically and mentally. Be the kind of man who can stop a criminal in the act, and the kind of man who doesn’t mind being yelled at by Karens at the city council meeting.
Incidentally, this also means being the kind of man who doesn’t mind being yelled at by gaynons on Twitter.
Learn a martial art. Exercise diligently and eat well. Carry a weapon. Have already resolved in your own mind that you would rather die doing what is right than live with regret. (Neh. 4:14)
Live to please Christ, and Christ alone. This makes you fearless, and that makes you formidable. (Gal. 2:20)
It also makes you the right kind of formidable.
A young man who is dangerous and who is not under the authority of Christ isn’t formidable. He is like a massive engine with no steering wheel, and someone is going to get hurt.
Which is why we should stop encouraging young men in their anger and mockery.
7. Be Joyful
Bringing us full circle, worship is warfare. Being an angry mocker is like trying to put out a fire by pouring gasoline on it.
But if you’re walking in the joy and the love and the power of Christ… You shine as lights in the world. (Phil. 2:15)
This is a real alternative, and it is a magnetic and powerful one.
This is how we win.
